Dare to dream

It started with a dream: a little girl sees a magazine, she flips through the pages, she smiles at the colors, feels the pictures, the textures. Her name is called, she opens her eyes... but holds on to the dream.

She's in secondary school, she studies the arts, literature, religious knowledge. She tells the guidance counsellor she wants to be a lawyer.

5th year law at uni, she thinks her thesis supervisor is the spawn of satan...

Who knew that good Lord placed the sun in an extraordinary place called Bwari, it's hot as heck, and she's stuck in the auditorium listening (but not understanding) to a lecture on civil procedure, wearing a black suit and white shirt and wishing she was any place but here...

Smile... click! "OUR BARRISTER" she's heard that a million times today. Her family look on her with pride, she's proud... but feels unaccomplished.

Passing out parade????!!!! NYSC is a farce!

"THE LAW IS AN ASS!! She's driving her principal partner's son from school and asks herself if running domestic errands for the boss was a clause in her employment contract. Drops the boy off at home, and heads straight to the airport. She's tired.... and is going to live away from naija wahala for a while.

She's pitching this campaign, trying to convince foreign investors to trust her with their money... the glamorous world of corporate finance.. a very far cry from litigation.. and further away from that dream she had a lifetime ago. She's selling out on her passion... she tenders her resignation.

She exhales... it maybe 20 odd years... but it's done. Her dream finally comes true. The first edition, a sigh of relief, and a tear.. for the little girl that dared to dream
